Swimming Tuition – We are not a learn to swim facility

As we are a sport focussed around water we do have a couple of requirements for the safety of our children and coaches. All children over 9 years old are expected to be able to swim to a reasonable standard. We are not a learn to swim facility.

Children aged 9 and over must pass the 200M competency test every season if they want to join or remain at the club (this is a requirement from SLSNZ). 200M Swim Times

Under 10 (9 Years old)           Less than 6:30

Under 11 (10 Years old)         Less than 6:00

Under 12 (11 Years old)         Less than 5:30

Under 13 (12 Years old)         Less than 5:00

Under 14 (13 Years old)         Less than 4:30

It is the parent’s responsibility to arrange swimming tuition and training for their children. Waimairi SLSC teaches surf awareness and skills, but does not teach swimming itself. Junior’s are encouraged to participate in regular swimming training at their local pool. Our surf club activities complement pool training, they don’t replace it.

Waimairi SLSC is a family club and has a great social atmosphere for children and parents but it is expected that the parents/caregivers are to be available to help out if required.

“Participation is the cornerstone of the Life Saving Movement – Competing is encouraged but not compulsory”
